Valentino’s Maria
Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli sent a parade of nymphs down the runway at
the brand’s spring-summer 2016 haute couture show. Citing inspiration from
Spanish fashion designer Mariano Fortuny and his pleated dresses, the showing
took on a Grecian turn. In lieu of shoes, models walked barefoot with gold
jewelry covering their ankles.
The silhouette for
spring 2016 couture is long and billowing with short variations making a rare
appearance. From the opening look–a white gown featuring velvet embroidered
butterflies and petals which took over 1,300 hours of work–there is no doubting
the craftsmanship of a Valentino piece. Elsewhere, there was kimono jackets,
pleated velvet and gold macrame. Piccioli and Chiuri ended on a light
note—quite literally. A trio of sheer tulle dresses with gold jewelry were the
perfect diaphanous finale looks.
